Why people choose text
Text chat is the oldest kind of random chat, and still the most relaxed. You have time to think before you reply, nobody judges how you look or sound, and you can chat from a bus, a library or a bed at 2 a.m.
It is also the most private way to meet someone. There is no picture or voice to recognise, and the conversation is not kept once it ends.
Starting a good conversation
A plain "hi" works, but a question gets a better reply.
- Ask something specific: "What are you listening to right now?"
- Share something small about your day first.
- If it is going nowhere after a few messages, Next is not rude. It is how random chat works.
Keep it anonymous
Don't share your full name, phone number, social accounts, school or workplace, even if the chat is going well. If someone pushes for personal details or money, leave and press Report.

Questions
Are my messages saved?
One-to-one text messages are not saved. Group room messages are visible to the room and recent ones may be kept for people who join later.
Do I need to give a name?
No. A name is optional and only shown to the people you chat with.
Can I see when they are typing?
Yes. You see a typing indicator while your match writes.
Can I switch to video later?
Yes. Use the tabs at the top of the chat. Switching starts a new search in the mode you pick.
